First the fun: We had a great start to May with our first Show and Shine at Big Valley Honda. 26 bikes were on display at one time, and many others dropped by for a time. There were many who came by to check out the huge variety of colors and features of the bikes including lots of different trailers. We even had a Stallion on display, which is definitely a different kind of trike, complete with Air Conditioning and Heater just to name a few luxuries. We also had the classic 1960 “Harris” Corvette— Wow what a beautiful job they did on that restoration and Lesley was driving it. We were glad she could make it in her chosen ride; I know she would have preferred the bike. But that will happen again in the future, and we wish her a continued speedy recovery. Thanks to all who came to support the event. It was a complete success, and we are still expecting a big increase in membership— there were many that day who wanted to learn more about us as a chapter.

Keeping with tradition, our annual Dunsmuir trip was a blast! 34 good friends riding 23 bikes, some staying one night and some of us 2 nights. Some stayed longer to visit a local vendor for a custom seat, celebrate an anniversary, or going on to continue more distant riding. We had a few that were under the weather and our extreme heat did cause us to feel like biscuits in an oven. Wow it got up to 100 degrees on Saturday, and did the pool ever come in handy to relieve that discomfort. A group went for a ride to the coast and returned 15 hours later—doubt they’ll try that again! But they said they had a good time all in all, and that’s all that counts. Oh and I think we will remember some of the trip by those who will probably earn a Binky for their mishaps. You know who you are Chuck and Micky, not naming anyone of course. Tonight I heard that John Higley may have a nomination for beating on his bike because it was giving him some trouble on the trip. John, as a retired cop, you should know that violence never solves anything! (Newsletter Editor input: I wouldn’t count on that, Randy!)

We also had great success with our first Ice Cream Social, 21 good friends showed up. Oddly enough there were only 4 bikes out front. I wonder how those other friends got there. Well anyhow I think we will start having the Ice Cream Social every 3rd Monday of the month at a location to be announced. So plan to join as the weather will become dependably hot in the future, begging for an excuse for ICE CREAM!!!

We had a friend from the Sierra Nevada Red Riders lose his life. It is never the kind of news other bikers want to hear. We extend our sympathy to Lana Olsen who lost her husband and best friend. His accident reminds us that we are constantly in danger while riding our bikes on the streets and highways around us. No matter whose fault, motorcyclists can never be too careful to make sure we are safe. Safety is our friend and if we forget that even once, we may not get a second chance to practice it. Please make every effort to remember the things we practice and teach at our safety socials. It could and most likely will save your life.

In a final note for this newsletter, we’d like to extend our thanks to the members and friends of the Sierra Eagles. We are especially grateful for our leaders who make our chapter such a tremendous

(Continued on page 2)

Sierra Eagles and Friends, Well we are at the end of May and it has been a month filled with lots of fun and some sadness.
